Falconry, a 2,000-year-old Emirati sport, embodies patience and teamwork between falconer and bird.  Through care and understanding, falconers earn the falcon’s trust. Emirati falconers have developed unique breeding and training methods, offering a rich cultural experience. Sheikh Zayed, in his book Falconry as a Sport – Our Arab Heritage, details key capture techniques. One method involves using a pigeon as bait, controlled by a thread, to lure the falcon into a hidden position.Another uses a net to trap the falcon as it pursues the pigeon. The captured falcon is then given to the falconer for training. While desert safaris offer falconry introductions, the Abu Dhabi Falcon Hospital, near the airport, provides a more in-depth experience. This world-leading facility includes a museum, free-flight area, and luxurious wards. Guided tours offer insights into falcon care, the sport’s history, and even the chance to try falconry in their gardens.
