Colossi of Memnon

The Colossi of Memnon have withstood the test of time and nature, including a significant earthquake in 27 BC. These impressive statues, towering at 20 meters, greet visitors today, echoing the 18th Dynasty and once producing mournful sounds that captivated the Romans. These remarkable statues, built thousands of years ago, are a testament to human ingenuity and resilience. Crafted from quartzite sandstone, the material was transported over 420 miles from what is now known as El-Gabal el-Ahmar, near modern Cairo, to the ancient city of Thebes, making them one of Luxor’s most iconic attractions.
